Sharu was a planet and the site of an Orion colony.

Sharu had been settled by Orion slaves. In March, 8486 BCE (reference stardate −104/8603), aided by Ruddy Orion managers and Green Orion workers, the Grey Orions of Sharu secretly diverted a small portion of the planet's industrial resources for their own purposes, and produced textiles, jewellery and calculators. Though this manufacturing was economically miniscule, it marked the first time that the Orion slaves produced goods for their use on an alien world. In 1317 BCE (stardate −33/17), the first legal Orion-built and -crewed starships were launched from shipyards on Sharu, Bema and Nilor. These unarmed merchant vessels were intended for legitimate trade and were always open to inspection by the alien powers that dominated the Orions.
