Rigel I, also called Beta Rigel I, Tugn, and Deyirdar, was the first planet in the Rigel star system or the Beta Rigel system in the Orion Neutrality Area in the Beta Quadrant. It was rated as either an airless class J, Class F, or Class B geomorteus planet. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge, ST reference: Star Charts, Decipher RPG module: Worlds)

Environment[]

Being so close to its sun, Rigel I was an extremely hot world, with a nearly molten crust that frequently erupted with magma, releasing trace gases and volatile compounds. Sometimes these cooled into valuable crystals, and prospectors risked death to harvest them. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds)

The planet was home to an aggressive type of creature known as a manuil. (TOS novel: Black Fire)

It had a total surface area of 21,237,160 square kilometers, 100% of which was land. Its makeup was 41% normal metals, 7% radioactive elements, 5% gemstones, 3% industrial crystals and 1% special minerals. It had no atmosphere or water. Its 'day' was 64 standard days long. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge)

Facilities[]

The planet was the site of an automated Orion mining facility that collected molten metals from the surface.

The Hakiel Radiation Zone, which shielded the system from Rigel's potentially lethal ionizing radiation, caused severe magnetic disturbances in front of it, near Rigel I. These occasionally damaged the mining facility's computer controls, and volunteer engineers in protective armor would arrive in heavily shielded ships to make repairs in the deadly environment.

It had a technological/sociopolitical index of 999974-74 and a planetary trade profile of GABGDFHC/(X). (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge)

Appendix[]

The FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge calls this planet Tugn and classes it J (which would correspond to a class J moon) while Decipher RPG module: Worlds names the world Deyirdar and classes it F.

Although the two sources typically disagree on the Rigel system, here they agree fairly well. Thus they have been merged.

The planets of the Beta Rigel system in Star Charts are inextricably linked to those of the Rigel system. Hence, Beta Rigel I is included here. Its classification of Class B geomorteus is close to that given by the other sources.
