Potatoes were known to be consumed as a foodstuff available in the Federation in the 23rd century. Mars Foods Incorporated advertised themselves as a supplier of spuds in Spacelanes, a periodical publication in the late 23rd century. In the year 2268, Kang and Mara's crew served a home-style dinner aboard the USS Enterprise during their return to Klingon space after their encounter with the Beta XII-A entity. Captain James T. Kirk appreciated their version of baked potatoes, which his crew nicknamed deviled potatoes. (TOS reference: Official Cooking Manual)
