A play is a dramatic work of literature, usually presented live on a stage.

Plays are important works in human culture, with William Shakespeare generally recognized as one of Earth's most important playwrights.

The writing and performance of plays continued into the 24th century. Dr. Beverly Crusher wrote several plays which she also produced and directed while serving as chief medical officer of the USS Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E.

Plays were also popular entertainment on Andoria in the late 23rd century. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Andorians: Among the Clans)
