Pioneers

Emblem of the Pike City Pioneers baseball team.

The Pike City Pioneers were a baseball team that played in the Cestus Baseball League in Pike City on Cestus III beginning in the year 2371. (DS9 episode: "Family Business")

History[]

The Pioneers played at Ruth Field. At their inaugural game, Governor Nanietta Bacco threw out the ceremonial first pitch. She continued this tradition on opening day every year, even at the start of the 2380 season, after her election as President of the United Federation of Planets. The first home run ever hit in the CBL was by Pioneer player Aloysius McSweeney, in the bottom of the ninth inning in a game against the Palombo Sehlats. The Pioneers went on to win the first Cestus Series that year against the Prairieview Green Sox, with the final run by Illyana Petrova with a steal at home plate. In the 2380 season, the Pioneers lost the Northern Division championship to the Salavar Stars. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

Benjamin Sisko was given a baseball cap by Kasidy Yates with the Pike City Pioneers logo on it in 2372. (DS9 episodes: "The Way of the Warrior", "Starship Down")

In 2389, the Pioneers played against a team of Gorn. After one of the Gorn was intoxicated, it was revealed to be an Undine Infiltrator. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)
