Ja'rod was a male Klingon who lived in the 24th century. Ja'rod was the father of Duras, Lursa, and B'Etor. Ja'rod was one of Mogh's greatest rivals. (TNG episode: "Redemption")
Ja'rod and his children were members of the House of Duras. Ja'rod considered changing the name of the House to the House of Ja'rod, but ultimately decided against doing so as his son Duras would change it back to the House of Duras when he assumed leadership of the House.
By 2346, Ja'rod was assigned to the outpost of Khitomer. Mogh, Son of Worf soon followed Ja'rod to Khitomer. Later that year, Ja'rod provided the shield codes to the Romulan attack force, enabling them to lower the outpost's shields and devastate the outpost. Ja'rod died when he was shot by Mogh's wife Kaasin. (TLE novel: The Art of the Impossible)
For many years, the truth behind the Khitomer massacre was unknown by the Klingons until they captured a Romulan ship with files which revealed whose shield codes were sent to the Romulans - which were Ja'rod's codes. The Klingon High Council had the files altered to blame Mogh as they feared that if the truth was known that it would split the Empire and plunge the Empire into civil war. At first, Mogh's son Worf challenged the council, but later backed down and accepted discommendation. It was not until after the Klingon Civil War of 2367 that the truth was finally known to the general populace. (TNG episodes: "Sins of the Father", "Redemption")
