See Newton for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.

Sir Isaac Newton (25 December 1642 – 20 March 1727) was a male Human scientist who lived during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Biography[]

He was credited with inventing calculus and what would later be termed Newtonian physics. (TOS novel: The Trellisane Confrontation)

Robert Hooke's work predated Newton, who Hooke hated, although it was Newton's work that became better known. (DS9 novel: Force and Motion)

Newton once encountered a Q later known as Quinn, who was responsible for jostling an apple tree and causing an apple to drop on Newton's head. Q remarked that if this chance encounter had not taken place that Newton would have most likely died forgotten in a debtors' prison in Liverpool and would have been suspected of killing several prostitutes. (VOY episode: "Death Wish")

Legacy[]

He is mentioned, along with Albert Einstein and Surak, by David Marcus when telling his mother, Dr. Carol Marcus, how their names will go down in history. (TOS movie: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

Lieutenant Commander Data once created a holodeck version of Newton, along with Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, in order to observe their interactions in a game of poker. (TNG episode: "Descent, Part I")

Newton held the position of Lucasian Chair at Cambridge University. He lived in a house that became the traditional residence of the person holding the position. In the Q-created anti-time future experienced by Jean-Luc Picard from 2370, Data held the position and thus lived in the house as of 2396. (TNG episode: "All Good Things...")

One of the shuttlecraft attached to the USS Enterprise-D was named Isaac Newton in his honor. (TNG novel: The Death of Princes)

In 2372, Q transported Newton, Maury Ginsberg and Commander William T. Riker to the USS Voyager in order to convince Captain Kathryn Janeway that Quinn had had a profound impact on Earth's history. He was soon returned to his own time with no memory of his brief visit to the Delta Quadrant in the 24th century. (VOY episode: "Death Wish")

In 2373, Benjamin Sisko recalled a quote from Newton: "Finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me". (DS9 - Rebels novel: The Conquered)
