"Daylily" is a Waypoint anthology comic story, the TOS feature in Issue 1 in September 2016. It was released by IDW Publishing in honor of Star Trek's 50th anniversary and focuses on Lieutenant Nyota Uhura.

Description[]

A crewmember, stranded on a strange planet, encounters a bizarre alien creature. They must learn how to interact, but how?

Summary[]

A storm disrupts the transporter of the USS Enterprise as people are beaming down to a desert planet, scattering each member of the landing party. Nyota Uhura finds herself alone in a desert. Montgomery Scott warns over her communicator that she will have to wait till the storm passes before she can be beamed back.

She moves within a small oasis to seek shelter and encounters a lone animal lifeform. While connecting with the strange creature, she sings it a song in Swahili and uses a phaser to heat a rock between them. She shows it how to weave leaves, and together they make mats.

Scott suddenly alerts her that the transporter is operational, and before Uhura can say farewell to the creature, she dematerializes. The animal waits for her to return, then stops mimicking standing like a biped and walks on all fours back into the foliage.
