History[]
In 2364, crewmembers from the USS Centurion and USS Enterprise-D discussed parallels between the history of the Roman Empire on Earth and the Magna Roman Empire. Data brought up how the Dark Ages followed the Empire's fall while Marcus Volcinius said that Magna Roma's empire prospered. (TNG novel: The Captains' Honor)
It was noted by historians that, because of the Eugenics Wars, Earth stood on the verge of a new Dark Ages at the end of the 20th century. (TOS episode: "Space Seed")
On other worlds[]
In the year 2268, Captain James T. Kirk compared a medieval planet to Earth in the Dark Ages, commenting that the people, having overthrown the Inquisitors which ruled over them, had just taken the first step out of them. Spock expressed the hope that the step was a permanent one. (TOS comic: "Day of the Inquisitors")
