The flight controller (also referred to as conn) is a crewperson serving aboard a Federation starship and is assigned the duty of piloting the vessel. During the 23rd century, the flight controllers were referred to as helmsmen. Some of the duties assigned to 24th century flight controllers had formerly been performed by navigators.
