The Battle of Draylax occurred in the year 2155, only days before the Earth-Romulan War was declared, as part of the Romulan Star Empire's war effort to conquer the Coalition of Planets.

History[]

The Battle[]

Using their Arrenhe'hwiua telecapture technology, the Romulan Star Navy commandeered three Klingon battlecruisers and used these vessels to launch an assault on the Draylax system in their efforts to incite conflict in the region.

Once attack was imminent, the Draylaxian government sent out a call for help. Having recently signed a mutual defense pact with the Alpha Centauri Concordium and Draylax, the United Earth government was obligated to help, thus the Earth Starfleet vessel Columbia, that was on patrol in the region, was dispatched to help. Uncomfortable with the odds Captain Hernandez contacted Captain Archer of the Enterprise to provide backup.

By the time Columbia got to Draylax, their defense ships were destroyed by the attackers and begun bombardment of the surface. Columbia engaged them the captured Klingon battleships and managed to destroy one but took some damage. The timely arrival of the Enterprise evened out the odds and the Starfleet forces quickly destroyed another ship.

At this point three Klingon Defense Force ships arrived on the scene, destroyed the remaining captured vessel, then left the system without establishing communications.

Aftermath[]

Since, at this point, they were unaware of the existence of the Romulan's telecapture technology, this attack and the Klingon Empire's unwillingness to provide a satisfactory explanation for the events left many in the Coalition of Planets thinking that it was a preamble to a full-scale war and ignoring the rising threat of the Romulans.
