The Aleira were a Bajoran ethnic group that existed at the same time as the Bajora.

The city of Joradell was initially home to both Aleira and Bajora, until the Aleirans seized sole control of the city and enslaved the Bajora and other groups. The Aleira were unlike other Bajorans, in that they did not believe in the Prophets and refused to accept other Bajoran groups being equal to them. Thirty years after the Aleiran seizure of Joradell, gilds such as those operated by Veralla Sil and Salan Ral had started to free slaves from Joradell.

Some Aleira, such as Altek Dans, opposed their people's actions, and helped others to escape Aleiran slavery. (ST - The Fall novel: Revelation and Dust)

Rumors persisted that the Aleira wanted to use Eugenics in an attempt to remove rhinal ridges from their genes. (DS9 novel: Sacraments of Fire)
