Aelas IV was the fourth planet in the Aelas system, located in the Vendor sector of the Beta Quadrant. Although the system lay inside Romulan space, the planet was independent. The native species were the formerly technologically advanced and now tribally organized Aelasans, who were united and governed by the Elder Chief. (STO - Romulan Mystery mission: "Saturday's Child")

Geology and geography[]

The planet was rich in topaline, which the Aelasans recovered from the mountains near the elder chief's village. The nearby hunting grounds were of paramount importance.

From space, Aelas IV was consistently green. The landmass covering the planet contained numerous lakes and small seas. The planet was a major source of topaline in the quadrant. (STO - Romulan Mystery mission: "Saturday's Child")

Fauna and flora[]

Aelasan warriors gathered food by hunting. The loss of the primary hunting ground would threaten Aelasan society. One of the species found on Aelas IV was the mugato.

The region around the capital village was covered in plant life with green foliage, including trees, bushed and grass. Wood and animal skins were used for heating and as building materials by the Aelasans. (STO - Romulan Mystery mission: "Saturday's Child")

History[]

In the 22nd century, Aelas IV was the homeworld of the technologically advanced, starfaring Aelasans. When their internecine struggles threatened their existence, King Aelas convinced his people to forsake their warlike lifestyle and technology. The culture, and subsequently the planet, was renamed in his honor.

Although the Aelasans returned to a tribal hunter-gatherer society and kept only a few pieces of technology, the Romulans left them alone for fear of hidden defenses.

In 2409, the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets sought a deal with the elder chief to extract the topaline. The chief commanded their representatives to compete in destroying the Sky Demon, an asteroid on collision course with the planet and threatening the hunting grounds. A Starfleet starship destroyed the asteroid, and the Aelasans signed the deal with the Federation, represented by Fleet Admiral Leonard James Akaar.
