"A Night In" was the first digital exclusive short story published in Star Trek: Explorer. This Deep Space Nine story was written by Una McCormack, illustrated by Louie De Martinis, edited by Jonathan Wilkins, and published on 10 November 2021. The story first saw print in the Q and False and Other Stories omnibus in December 2022.

DS9 episode: "Broken Link" – Elim Garak's imprisonment began in this story. The Female Changeling's statement about Cardassia from this episode, "They're dead. You're dead, Cardassia is dead. Your people were doomed the moment they attacked us," was quoted in the story.
DS9 episode & novelization: What You Leave Behind – Q showed Garak a glimpse of ruined Cardassia as seen at the end of the Dominion War in 2375.

Background[]

This story took place four months after DS9 episode: "Broken Link" during the fourth of Garak's six-month confinement, said in the story to be in the fifth year of his Cardassian exile.
