Worlds Collide

Summary[]

On an unexplored planet about to be hit by an asteroid, the crew of the Enterprise finds a new species. Meanwhile, on Earth, Spock instructs young Saavik in controlling her emotions. Kirk and McCoy argue their responsibilities to the new species they have found, but discover that they still have a lot to learn about these lifeforms. Spock makes a logical decision and places Saavik in the care of his own parents.

Background information[]

• Writer Glenn Greenberg stated that when writing this series, he had to rely on Michael and Denise Okuda's Star Trek Chronology as gospel in terms of the timeline of the Star Trek universe. The Chronology put Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan fourteen years after the events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, despite the fifteen years since "Space Seed" mentioned by Khan and Kirk. As such, he chose to have Spock find Saavik shortly after the V'Ger incident, and that would put her at about 11 years old for this issue. If the gap between the first two movies is dropped to about seven years, then Saavik would be closer to 14 years old for the issue, and thus about 22 in the second movie. [1]
