Background information[]

  • The series was originally envisioned by editor John Ordover as running for twelve books, comprising six duologies. Ultimately, the series was reduced to nine after Ordover felt "it was stretching it to be twelve books". Dafydd ab Hugh's A Time to Create/A Time to Destroy was dropped (having originally been scheduled after the …Love/…Hate duology), and Keith R.A. DeCandido's A Time for War/A Time for Peace duology compressed into a single volume to close out the storyline. (Voyages of Imagination, p. 464, [1](X), [2])
  • Ordover intended the series as a response to fan complaints about the abrupt character changes presented in Star Trek Nemesis, such as Riker and Troi's rekindled relationship and engagement, Riker's acceptance of the USS Titan assignment, Worf's return to Starfleet and the return of Wesley Crusher. (Voyages of Imagination, p. 464)
  • The titles of the series were derived from Ecclesiastes 3 in the Bible. Several fans were unaware that the titles were from the Bible, thinking the terms originated in the Byrds song Turn! Turn! Turn!. (Voyages of Imagination [page number? • edit])
