Robin Hood was the name of a character from Human mythology. Living in 12th century England, he was the leader of the Merry Men and resided with them in Sherwood Forest. He had a romantic relationship with Maid Marian. Robin Hood was most famous for robbing the rich to feed the poor and for his rescue of Maid Marian from Nottingham Castle. As a result of his principles and actions, he was viewed by the High Sheriff of Nottingham and his second-in-command Sir Guy of Gisbourne as being guilty of outlawry and treason and, as a consequence, he had an adversarial relationship with them.
When James T. Kirk and Spock arrived on Earth in the United States of America of 1930 via the Guardian of Forever, Kirk stole clothes from a fire escape to aid in their disguise, jokingly stating that they would "steal from the rich and give back to the poor – later." (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")
When Kirk and Spock traveled back in time to 1986, Doctor Gillian Taylor addressed them as Robin Hood and Friar Tuck. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
In 2367, the entity known as Q transported the senior officers of the USS Enterprise-D into a recreation of Sherwood Forest and the story of Robin Hood in an attempt to teach Captain Picard a lesson about love. During the reenactment each of the officers played the part of one of the Merry Men. The role of Robin Hood was played by Picard who had to choose whether to let Maid Marian (Vash) die or risk his crew's lives trying to rescue her. (TNG: "Qpid")
In 2373, Benjamin Sisko said that Michael Eddington saw himself as Valjean or Robin Hood, generally speaking a hero fighting for a noble cause. (DS9: "For the Uniform")
Both Patrick Stewart and Chase Masterson appeared in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, a parody of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, which also starred fellow Trek alumnus Christian Slater. Scott Grimes appeared in Robin Hood. Barrie Ingham played Robin Hood in A Challenge for Robin Hood.
The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 228 referenced Robin Hood as a "12th-century English hero who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor."
