Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – Mission Gamma is a series of four Pocket DS9 novels published by Pocket Books in 2002. It forms part of the Deep Space Nine relaunch series.
The series tells the story of the resumption of Starfleet's exploration of the Gamma Quadrant following the end of the Dominion War, with Elias Vaughn commanding the USS Defiant on the mission with Julian Bashir, Ezri Dax and Nog among his crew. The series also deals with the process of Bajor's entry into the Federation and the opportunities and difficulties this brings for Kira Nerys on Deep Space 9.
These Haunted Seas, an omnibus edition of the first two novels, was released in June 2008.

Background information[]
- Pocket editor, and developer of the DS9 relaunch series, Marco Palmieri commented: "Mission: Gamma was inspired in large part by my having recently seen a PBS documentary on Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery, which had a great romantic quality to it". Palmieri had specific plot elements for the story taking place on Deep Space 9, but allowed the authors free rein when developing their Gamma Quadrant storylines. Palmieri also experimented with the structure of the four-book arc, noting that it "starts out with a story of 200,000 words, and the novels get progressively shorter and faster-paced as the series progresses towards its action climax".
