"Louie, Louie" was a 20th century Earth, American rock and roll song, written in the mid-1950s.
When Miles O'Brien and Odo would go kayaking in the holosuite, O'Brien would often sing ancient sea chanties to "establish a smooth paddling rhythm." Among O'Brien's favorite paddling songs while "shooting the rapids" was "Louie, Louie". (DS9: "Heart of Stone")
The song was considered to be the one O'Brien and Julian Bashir sang in "Explorers", although the rights to it proved too expensive to use. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 238)
