Ensign Jennifer "Jen" Sh'reyan was a female Andorian Starfleet command division junior officer who lived during the late 24th century.
USS Cerritos[]
During the early 2380s she served aboard the USS Cerritos under Captain Carol Freeman.
She was present at the bar on the Cerritos in 2380, when Ensign Brad Boimler was telling the story of how fellow ensign Beckett Mariner "mistook" a Ferengi for a Bolian. (LD: "Envoys")
Later that year, Jen was shoved to the side by Mariner when the latter was pushing people out of her way in the corridor aboard the USS Vancouver. (LD: "Cupid's Errant Arrow")
Jen also participated in the "Chu Chu dance", and was present at a party celebrating Ensign Fletcher's promotion to lieutenant and transfer to the USS Titan. (LD: "Terminal Provocations")
She was later in the lounge following Boimler and Tendi's return from "The Farm". (LD: "Much Ado About Boimler")
One of the many things that Ensign Mariner griped about was how Lieutenant Commander Andy Billups had once called her "Jen" because he'd never bothered to learn her name prior to finding out she was Captain Freeman's daughter. After Boimler was promoted to lieutenant junior grade and transferred to the USS Titan, Jen was one of the people who yelled at Mariner to be quiet and stop yelling into her PADD. (LD: "No Small Parts")
She interrupted a holo program that Mariner was running, criticizing Mariner's choice of exercise. In reply to Mariner's followup question, Sh'reyan stated that she exercised by doing yoga. She then informed Mariner that the Captain was awaiting Mariner in her ready room. (LD: "Strange Energies")
Sh'reyan was waiting in line at the replicator when it refused to recognize Boimler's commands. Like the other crew in line, she started to get angry and asked Boimler to hurry up. Later, Sh'reyan was at the conn position when Tom Paris visited the bridge. She left the position to allow Paris to take the ship for a spin. (LD: "We'll Always Have Tom Paris")
Sh'reyan was a prominent member of the Redshirts club on the Cerritos. When Boimler was invited to join the Redshirts, Sh'reyan helped give him a makeover by modifying his uniform, and restyling his hair. When Ensign D'Vana Tendi was transformed into a scorpion-like creature, and went on a rampage through the mess hall, she tried to inspire the crew with a rousing speech, but her speech was overlapped by other speeches of the members Casey and Castro. Boimler made an impression on Sh'reyan when he took action to help Tendi revert back to her normal self. Later on, when Casey kicked Boimler from the Redshirts, Boimler criticized the club, saying that it was shameful to try and build a persona from other captains. His actions and words were enough to convince Sh'reyan to leave the club, along with Castro, and a Kzinti ensign. (LD: "The Spy Humongous")
Sh'reyan attended the intro for the simulation drills. She was seen discussing with Winger Bingston, Jr. about the drill instructor's species. She then stood alongside Winger and Castro as they listened to the instructor's speech, with Sh'reyan and the rest of the lower decks crew showing excitement at the instructor's proposal. (LD: "I, Excretus")
Sh'reyan was later seen creating pottery with other members of the crew. She became frightened when Shaxs started to turn violent after being reminded about Bajor. Later she was seen sitting at a table in the lounge and having a discussion with Castro. (LD: "wej Duj")
Sh'reyan bumped into Mariner who was carrying contraband. In response to Mariner's accusation about Sh'reyan being proud of catching her with contraband and asking that she not mention it to Ransom, Sh'reyan casually remarked that she didn't care. When Mariner claimed that she probably hated Mariner, Sh'reyan replied that she didn't even think of Mariner at all.
Later, Sh'reyan was on the bridge, suited up in a spacesuit like the rest of the crew and informing the captain that they were approaching the debris field as planned. She then warned the bridge crew about the incoming debris that was about to hit the ship. As the ship made impact, Mariner was knocked from the bridge and floated out into space. Sh'reyan then walked onto the outside surface of the ship and prevented Mariner from drifting away from the ship. The two then made it back to the bridge.
Sometime later, Sh'reyan was enjoying a drink when Mariner approached her, thanking Sh'reyan for saving her life. Sh'reyan then dismissed the compliment and apologized for treating Mariner badly the past year. The two then admitted their real feelings for each other before they approached Boimler to congratulate him for saving the ship. Sh'reyan then joined in toasting the captain and followed her outside her Ready Room in preparation for celebrating her promotion to a higher ship. She, like the other crew members, initially cheered the captain as she came out of the room, but quickly became shocked upon noticing that the captain had been arrested. (LD: "First First Contact")
In 2381, she served as a member of the away team that landed on Galardon during the mission race performed between the Cerritos and the USS Aledo. Upon landing, she and a sciences ensign were designated as "Alpha" and "Beta" by Andy Billups, and were assigned to install the rigging. (LD: "The Stars At Night")
She and Westlake were later abducted by Shabarnes as subjects for T'Illups "Tuvix army". Thereafter, the two were combined, but later restored by Ensigns Tendi and T'Lyn. (LD: "Twovix")
USS Manitoba[]
In 2382 Sh´reyan was offered a promotion to the USS Manitoba. There were already several Andorians serving on the ship and it was a good place for her to advance in her career. (LD: "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel")
Relationships[]
Beckett Mariner[]
Mariner hated Sh'reyan at first, but following her rescue of Mariner, the two began to date. (LD: "Strange Energies", "First First Contact")
When Mariner was later part of the away team sent to dispose of the psychic mines a planet's surface, the orbs tempt her with an illusion of Sh'reyan wearing a bikini, implying that Mariner had romantic feelings towards her and they were possibly dating. Mariner vehemently denies this to Boimler and Rutherford.
Later, however, when the orbs were broken and started manifesting illusions in the form of nightmares, a second, werewolf-like version of Sh'reyan appeared, "killed" the first one, and then chased Mariner, declaring that they should be together in a long-term, exclusive relationship. This seemed to imply that Mariner had feelings for her but had commitment issues and feared what might happen if they become too close. (LD: "Mining The Mind's Mines")
After Mariner was transferred to Starbase 80, she approached Sh'reyan in the corridor in hopes of talking things through. Sh'reyan, however offered no sympathy, and told Mariner that her actions hurt the entire crew when they all had been trying to make a good impression. Mariner assured Sh'reyan that she did nothing wrong, but Sh'reyan didn't believe her. Mariner urged that she needed Sh'reyan to believe her, but Sh'reyan told her that she couldn't trust her, and that she obviously never truly knew who Mariner was. (LD: "Trusted Sources")
After the exposé of the crew members who gave negative comments on their experiences on the Cerritos except Mariner who spoke positively, it was unknown if Jennifer felt guilty or misinformed of her actions for refusing to believe that Mariner was actually telling the truth; It's likely she felt remorseful. She later saw Mariner in the cafeteria feeling positively shocked. (LD: "The Stars At Night")
After a year of non-contact, Jennifer attempted to gaslight Mariner to force her into admitting their relationship was over while trying to capture the nanite grouping called Glumpus. During this time, it was revealed that Jennifer did feel remorse for not believing Mariner as she had fallen in love with her rebellious side and it never dawned on her that Mariner was innocent. Ultimately, the two amicably ended their relationship, Jennifer excited that this was the first time an ex hadn't become a mortal enemy. (LD: "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel")
Holograms []
A holographic version of Jennifer appeared in the Naked Time simulation, wherein she was seen naked and kissing a holographic Barnes. (LD: "I, Excretus")

Background information[]
Sh'reyan was voiced by Lauren Lapkus.
She was portrayed as a non-speaking background character until "No Small Parts", in which she was heard off-screen. Her first on-screen speaking appearance was in "Strange Energies". Jennifer's name was first given in "Cupid's Errant Arrow". Her Human-sounding first name was improvised by Tawny Newsome, who was unaware at the time that the character was Andorian. [1] Sh'reyan's surname was shown onscreen in "I, Excretus".
According to the Andorian naming conventions introduced in the Pocket Books novels, starting with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Avatar, the "sh" prefix in Sh'reyan's last name indicates that she is a "shen", one of the four Andorian genders, and one of two feminine genders.
