The Ferengi hand phaser, or simply Ferengi phaser, was a type of hand phaser classified as a plasma weapon that was used by the Ferengi and their military personnel. The phaser fired a forced plasma beam. (TNG: "Descent")
DaiMon Tog and Nibor carried Ferengi phasers aboard the Krayton. William T. Riker later took Nibor's after he knocked him out. He later used it to destroy the mind probe that Doctor Farek was using on Lwaxana Troi, before surrendering it to Tog. (TNG: "Ménage à Troi")
Berik wielded a Ferengi hand phaser when he was beamed onto the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D from Lurin's Bird-of-Prey in 2369. He shot Worf square in the chest with it, incapacitating him. (TNG: "Rascals")
Later the same year, the Rakhari criminal Croden used a Ferengi phaser when he went into Holosuite 1 to steal a valuable bauble egg from a pair of twinned Miradorns, Ah-Kel and Ro-Kel. With it, Croden killed Ro-Kel. Constable Odo later mentioned to Quark that it was curious Croden had used a Ferengi phaser and suggested Quark was behind this. Quark, however, talked himself out by explaining that such weapons were "[a]vailable in many a port." (DS9: "Vortex")
In the same year, a group of renegade Borg, led by Lore, utilized weapons as implants that caused damaged that was visually similar to Ferengi hand phasers. (TNG: "Descent")
These hand phasers were also holstered by the crew of Bok's ship in 2370. After Jason Vigo was kidnapped by DaiMon Bok in a plot to seek revenge on Captain Jean-Luc Picard by killing him on the premise that he was Picard's "son", he attempted to bargain with Bok, suggesting that he could "[t]ell my father you killed me. Put a phaser burn on my shirt and send it to him. He'll think I'm dead. That's what's important, isn't it?" Moments later, three of the ship's bridge crew pulled theirs on Captain Jean-Luc Picard when he beamed onto their bridge. One of the Ferengi, Tol, later turned his phaser on Bok and took him into custody. (TNG: "Bloodlines")

Background information[]
The Ferengi hand phaser was a replacement for the failed energy whip prop; it made its first appearance in "Ménage à Troi". (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, 3rd ed., p. 128)
An image of the prop appeared in the segment "Inside Starfleet Archives" as part of the special features on the TNG Season 2 DVD.
When fired, its beam was yellow in both "Ménage à Troi" and "Vortex", but was green in "Rascals".
