Felix was a Human who lived in the 32nd century at the Akaali colony on Radvek V.
In 3160, an impoverished Felix was given shelter and a meal by an Akaali stranger from the Doxica family. After his host went to sleep, Felix went to rob him, only to be caught in the act. Felix killed him in the ensuing struggle, while the man's young daughter Patri Doxica was in the next room. One of the items Felix stole was the Doxicas' lalogi orb, an irreplaceable heirloom containing a record of their heritage, though he did not understand its significance until much later.
Felix was subsequently arrested. He was selected to be made an "Example" as per Emerald Chain tradition, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Felix told his fellow inmates that he had taken a joyride in a sand-copter; it is not clear whether the Radvek authorities knew, or cared, that he was a murderer. Felix resolved to assist the colony's other Examples in redressing the injustice that had been done to them, but also secretly intended to die in the prison as penance for the murder he committed. He kept the lalogi orb hidden from the prison guards, hoping that one day he would have a chance to return it.
Thirty years later in 3190, Radvek V was threatened with possible destruction by the Dark Matter Anomaly. Captain Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker arrived from the USS Discovery to rescue the six Examples from the colony prison. Felix advocated for his fellow prisoners, securing for them offers of Federation asylum from Burnham. However, he himself refused to leave in light of the debt he still felt he owed, regardless of whether the colony would be destroyed or spared. Burnham respected his choice and accepted the lalogi orb into her care.
Minutes later, the DMA neared enough to confirm the certain destruction of the colony, while also precluding the use of transporters for any further evacuation. For the first time since it happened, Felix spoke fully about his crime against the Doxica family to Burnham, and how he had thought of what he had taken from Patri every day since. He then faced his death in peace as the DMA pushed Radvek V into its sun. (DIS: "The Examples")
