Earth political map

Twenty-first century-era map depicting the countries of the world

Central America was the southernmost region of the North American continent. This region, which connected North America to South America, separated the Caribbean from the Pacific Ocean. (TOS-R: "The Cage")

Cultures[]

The northernmost part of this region was the ancient home of the Toltec and Mayan civilizations and was visited by Kukulkan in the distant past. (TAS: "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth")

When the USS Voyager was accidentally transported from 2373 to 1996, Chakotay speculated he could work as an archaeologist in Central America, if there were no way back to the 24th century. According to Chakotay, important discoveries still were to be made in this time, which could even earn him a Nobel Prize. (VOY: "Future's End, Part II")

The ancestral "sacred land" of the Nicarao and Rubber Tree People was located in the rainforests of Ometepe island in Central America, where some of their descendants still lived in the 24th century. They believed the Sky Spirits had led them there. Kolopak once took his son Chakotay on an expedition to Central America to find them. (VOY: "Tattoo"; PRO: "Observer's Paradox")

History[]

In the mid-20th century, Central America was depicted on the mission insignia for Apollo 1, Apollo 7, Apollo 8, Apollo 10, and Apollo 11. (ENT: "First Flight")

A 21st century-era political map of Earth was stored in the USS Enterprise's library computer in 2254. The North American continent was seen on this map. This map was among the materials viewed by the Talosians when they scanned the Enterprise computer. (TOS-R: "The Cage")

Earth map, 20th century, Northern Hemisphere

A 20th century-era political map of the Northern Hemisphere

It was probable that Central America was labeled on a 20th century-era political map of Earth used in the original "The Cage". However, due to the poor quality of the image and the inability to access the source material, this was far from certain.
