The Royal Capital Grand Trad
The Royal Capital Grand Trad (王都グラン・トラド, Outo Guran Torado)? is the capital of both the Kingdom of Euchronia and the larger United Kingdom of Euchronia. It is also known as the Royal Capital due to the presence of the Royal Palace. It is the largest and most populated city in Euchronia.
Profile[]
Grand Trad is a fortified city surrounded by the Tradia Desert surrounded by thick walls, which were originally its most recognizable feature. However, it was indicated that the area around the capital used to be a lush grassland instead of a desert prior to the public's anxieties literally desolating it. Only in Grand Trad can members of all tribes be seen, but the clemar and roussainte are still a majority.[1] While it has an equally large paripus population, they are treated as vagrants and face severe persecution on a routine basis. It is the main setting for the first and final arc of the game.
Its former landmark is the Royal Palace, which acts as the headquarters of King Hythlodaeus V. After Sanctifex Forden of the Sanctist Church ordered a pogrom on the prince's home village, the king brought him to the royal capital, and he personally hired Grius, Russell and Hulkenberg as his son's caretakers and bodyguards. The king's son was not the only one moved from the village to the capital, as he also brought another elda living in the prince's village with him. When Forden followed up by trying to assassinate the prince with a proxy killer who effectively put him out of commission despite failing to kill him outright, the prince's three helpers left the capital, with Russell bringing the prince's comatose body alongside him. With the prince seemingly dead and the king falling into a deep depression over the loss of his lover and son, Forden began taking power for himself in earnest using the church's name with the king being too grief-ridden to stop him, and the church constructed the towering Regalith Grand Cathedral using the grounds of the royal cemetery that the king donated to them. It has become the new face of the capital since then, symbolizing the church's superiority over the king.
The city is consisted of three major components:
- The main street, known as Sunlumeo Street;
- The streets near the Regalith Grand Cathedral, which also contains a market with some stores only opening at night;
- The backalley known as Sunshade Row, located under the main street. Down the area are the gallows where public executions are held, while down an alley behind the gallows is the protagonist's main residence for a portion of the game, the Hushed Honeybee Inn. Most of its residents are paripus vagrants.
The protagonist first enters Grand Trad from Tradia Desert to enlist in the army so he could relay an important message to Grius. Despite being merely a lone elda who entered the capital, he was almost immediately met with strange eyes and gossip. In actuality, the army captain during that time, Captain Klinger, was preparing sacrifices for one of Louis' attacks and the fresh meat were intended to be killed by humans summoned by the count, but the protagonist and Strohl survived and thwarted the attack and managed to meet Grius. After escaping an ambush in the Nord Mines, the three return back to the capital by carriage in time for the royal funeral where Grius plans on assassinating Louis. However, the assassination was thwarted by the freshly activated king's magic, which leads to Louis retaliating by fatally slitting Grius' throat, effectively meaning that the king disposed of one of his most loyal men for interfering with his designs. Louis then causes further disruptions by having his gauntlet runner Charadrius bombard the cathedral and drop his right-hand man Zorba to try to obtain the Royal Sceptre for him and prepare an attack known as the "Day of Calamity" where he unleashes hordes of monsters and soldiers from his private army in an attempt to destroy the capital from the inside. This fails, as the king's soul takes the Royal Sceptre back to the royal palace where it is now out of reach while the party thwarts Zorba's attacks by defeating him and a giant human he plans on unleashing onto the capital. With Zorba's attack ending up in failure, the church formulated a counter-plan for them to take power in spite of the obstruction set up by the king by turning it into a rigged official tournament dubbed the Tournament for the Throne.
However, their plans of a systematic power-grab were completely demolished by the actions of Louis and Rella, which also left their core leadership dead or politically ostracized. The tournament is out of their control past this point and it degenerated into a competition between the protagonist and Louis. Louis lures the protagonist back to the Regalith Grand Cathedral for a duel, but it was actually a distraction for Zorba to assassinate the prince and for Louis to make a final shot at intimidating the populace into giving into their anxieties by turning the protagonist into a human and telling them a half-truth, forcing the protagonist and his traveling companions to escape towards the prince's home village. When they return on 9/26, despite they essentially had the actual prince of Euchronia himself leading them, their pleas were completely ignored as most of its citizens were already completely insane and devoid of all reasoning, being no longer able to redirect their anxieties towards the Royal Sceptre. This causes violent incidents to occur sporadically (often visible in-game while wandering around town) inside the royal capital, in addition to similar incidents occurring in other urban settlements across the country. On top of this, humans are slowly approaching the capital, being attracted by the huge amounts of stagnant magla produced by the populace's fear and anger.
Following Louis' death and the Royal Sceptre's destruction at the hands of the protagonist, the capital has mostly returned to a peaceful state, as the release of all of the Royal Sceptre's burdened magla calmed down the once-irritable populace. This is further helped by the protagonist being a benevolent king whose rule is noted to have a beneficial effect towards the kingdom's well-being.
Activities[]
In Grand Trad, the activities that can be performed include:
- Speaking to a pagan, increasing the protagonist's Tolerance by 2 coins. Only available before 9/26.
- Speaking to an old rhoag man to listen to a story about fairies long ago, improving the protagonist's Imagination by 2 coins. Only available before 9/26.
- Taking a break by sitting next to the view of the Royal Capital will improve the protagonist's Wisdom. Before 9/26, it will reward only with 2 coins, but visiting starting from 9/26 will reward with 8.
- Speaking to an activist increases the protagonist's Eloquence by 2 coins and he'll receive Fairy Dust. The protagonist first needs to pay 250 reeve as a donation to unlock the activity for the day. It is only available during the daytime and before 9/26.
- The protagonist can help Fabienne at the Hushed Honeybee Inn. The activity gives either 2 or 3 coins of Tolerance depending on the cooking option the protagonist makes: there are 2 different events, and the protagonist has to either "grate it in and simmer" or "cook it on low heat" to receive 3 coins. It is only available at night and before 9/26.
- The protagonist can cook Redgrass-Roasted Bidou with Fabienne at the Hushed Honeybee Inn: it requires the ingredients Bidou Meat, Pristine Clearwater and Redgrass. Choosing "let's stick to the recipe" will also reward with 3 coins of Tolerance instead of 2. It is only available at night and before 9/26.
- The protagonist can rest in the bed at Hushed Honeybee Inn at any time. This does nothing but skip the current time slot.
- The protagonist might take on a bounty quest for Maneater Manjula. After 9/26, bounty quests for Bandit Chief Cistus and Homo Sondro, Kokamordos and Ordemos are unlocked. Clearing a bounty rewards 4 courage points and a varying amount of reeve.
