- "Kyakya! I've been expecting you Zero! You made a fool of me the last time we met! But I assure you it won't happen again!"
- —Popla Cocapetri, Mega Man Zero 4
Popla Cocapetri (プープラ・コカペトリ) is a cockatrice-based Mutos Reploid and one of the Einherjar Eight Warriors in Mega Man Zero 4. He takes control of the Living City to convert it into a front-line base for Operation Ragnarok.
History[]
Popla Cocapetri was previously employed in "electronic combat", adept at hacking and communications interference. He can access backdoor computer systems and interact directly with main coding; one favorite method of his, matching his cockatrice motif, is exploiting a failsafe protocol through laser etching inscriptions onto a Reploid's optical units, subconsciously activating a built-in self-containment sequence and override virus to take over the CPU of the victim, deactivating them as if they were petrified.[Citation needed] He lost his job as Cyber-elves became the preferred hackers, infuriating him into joining Dr. Weil.
Zero notices Cocapetri after defeating Carnage Force 0 and pursues him. He questions Operation Ragnarok, but goes along with it as it is Dr. Weil's orders. He is confused by Zero, but becomes angry when he calls him a "grunt." He almost attacks, but is interrupted by Fenri Lunaedge's howl, who doesn't want him to spoil the fun. He bullies Sol Titanion, but is silenced by Pegasolta Eclair, who berates him for being late. When Craft describes Operation Ragnarok, Cocapetri sneers that once Area Zero is destroyed, no one will escape Dr. Weil.
Cocapetri takes control of an abandoned city whose infrastructure is connected to a computer system, authorizing its directives to reinforce its infrastructure for warfare as an impregnable base, issue junk botched process construction projects to wear away at Area Zero, and to destroy anyone that enters it through its security systems. He had a grudge against Zero for insulting him, but was still defeated.
Cocapetri is revived in Ragnarok to fight Zero again, aware that he will perish in the explosion but hoping to get revenge first. He fails, and is killed by Zero once more.
Strategy[]
Popla Cocapetri fights in a room with floors moving up and down, making it more difficult to dodge his attacks. He has no elemental weakness.
Attack | Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
CocaPoulet | Cocapetri creates an egg Mechaniloid (CocaPoulet) that walks and jumps on the floor then disappears. | The egg can be destroyed. |
Venom Tail | Cocapetri launches three green bombs at three ranges. | |
Evil Eye | Cocapetri launches a greenish-white glyph hologram that stuns Zero. | If Zero is hit, the player must rapidly press all the directional buttons in random order to free him, otherwise Zero will only be freed when Cocapetri hits him or when enough time elapses. |
Chicken Wing | Cocapetri throws six feather-like daggers that slowly fall to the ground. | |
EX Skill: Devil Eye (デビルアイ) | Cocapetri goes into the upper middle of the screen, freezes time, then scatters bombs which then land on the floor. | There is always one opening left between the bombs, to where the player shall quickly dash when they begin to fall. |

Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works[]
A Reploid specializing in Electronic Combat, he is very adept at jamming sensors, hacking, and the like. He had lots to do before the implementation of hacker-type Cyber-elves, but lost his job as the use of elves became more popular. In his anger, he willingly joined Weil's side. He is stubborn and short-tempered, and hates it when others tease him about his small size. He has three lenses: one on his torso, and one on each wing, but none of these lenses are visible when he has his wings folded.
Etymology[]
- Popla Cocapetri's first name may be a reference to his stage, Living City, as a once "populated" space. His second name is a portmanteau of "cockatrice", the mythological creature upon which he is based, and the verb "to petrify", meaning to turn something to stone.

Notes[]
- ↑ This is a Japanese pun based on an idiom for getting angry, literally meaning "turning as red as a rooster's cockscomb."
