The Kamar-Taj Librarian restrained by Zealots
In the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal, the Masters of the Mystic Arts are trained at Kamar-Taj to harness energy drawn from other dimensions of the Multiverse to cast magic spells, conjuring shields and weapons from its fiery energy, such as Eldrich Whips.
In 2016, former Masters Kaecilius and his Zealots infiltrated the library of Kamar-Taj, stealing a ritual from the Book of Cagliostro in the private collection of his former mentor, the Ancient One. When confronted by the Librarian, the Zealots used their Whips to restrain and suspend their fellow sorcerer before Kaecilius killed him. When the Ancient One arrived to capture the Zealots, they quickly fled through a portal but were trapped by the sorcerer in the Mirror Dimension, where they faced off against the Ancient One, conjuring whips to restrain her but were instead overpowered.

In the months following a car accident that injured his hands, Doctor Stephen Strange arrived at Kamar-Taj to train with the Masters and heal his hands. During a sparring session with Karl Mordo, Strange was instructed to summon a weapon, and formed the Eldrich Whips to battle against Mordo. However, Mordo outmaneuvered Strange using his enchanted boots and defeated him.[1]

After the Zealots destroyed the London Sanctum, Strange was thrown by the blast into the New York Sanctum, where he witnessed the Zealots executing the Sanctum's Master, Daniel Drumm. Strange quickly conjured an Eldritch Whip, using it to hold off the Zealots before retreating into the Sanctum. When Kaecilius forced him into the Relic Chamber, Strange used his Whip to defend against the sorcerer's Space-Time Shard before restraining him with the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak.[1]

In 2018, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and members of the Guardians of the Galaxy fought Thanos on his home planet of Titan. After the others became overwhelmed, Strange was left standing. He used his Eldritch Magic and summoned dozens of duplicates of himself in an attempt to restrain Thanos with the Whips.[2]

The Eldritch Whip is a basic and signature weapon utilized by the Masters of the Mystic Arts, primarily used to ensnare a target from a distance, such as grabbing an object or restraining a person to prevent them from moving or escaping.
