He has a son named John.

For whatever reasons, he has taken a dislike towards superpowered individuals especially those who engage in vigilante activities. He shows a particular dislike of Spider-Man, constantly using his media power to discredit the hero and often calling for his arrest.

He held a contest for anyone who could get an interview with Spider-Man. Though no one succeeded, he did send one teenage girl a new camera.

The villain Beetle tried to kill him, requiring Spider-Man and his team of superhero allies to protect him.

He sent a crew to record Spider-Man's team fighting the Wrecking Crew.

He once put a ten million dollar bounty out on Spider-Man's unmasking but later rescinded it.

He blamed Spider-Man for his son's transformation into Man-Wolf.

He claimed Spider-Man was working with Sandman.

He later noted how public opinion had changed when Spider-Man joined the Avengers.
