Continuity[]
- Spider-Man would later appear in the episode "New Avengers".
Background[]
Christopher Yost admitted that this episode was originally going to tie in with The Spectacular Spider-Man with this Spider-Man being the same one from the series.[1] He admitted that integrating the two series would not have been easy but that this was a The Spectacular Spider-Man episode "at heart".[2]
Josh Keaton originally recorded for the episode, reprising his role from The Spectacular Spider-Man. He was later replaced by Ultimate Spider-Man actor Drake Bell.
The title of the episode comes from X-Men #35.
Reception[]
The change from Keaton to Bell generated enormous controversy among The Spectacular Spider-Man fans who wished to hear him reprise the roll. Several critics felt that there were more fans who would be upset at Keaton's replacement than those who wished to see continuity with Ultimate Spider-Man. To make matters worse, soon after the episode originally aired in Australia it was announced that The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes was being replaced with Avengers Assemble (which is in the same universe as Ultimate Spider-Man), making continuity between this and Ultimate Spider-Man a moot point. Keaton responded that this kind of things happens in the voice acting industry all the time and did not appear upset.
