Mega

Mega is the third planet from the sun in the Mirpet star system of the Milky Way galaxy.^[1] It is the home planet of the one-eyed semi-reptilian semi-humanoids known as the Megans.^[2]

The Megans had long been at war with the Betans who inhabited their rival planet, Beta. As the war went on for centuries, both planets were depleted of precious resources. In order to continue fighting the war, both sides began to capture gargantuan creatures from other planets, "alien dinosaurs" that they used as living weapons against their respective enemies. The war-monsters used by the Megans were known as Mega-Monsters.^[2]

• Although Mega is described in-story only as the "rival planet" of the Betans, the entry for the Megans in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #6 referred to Mega's "sister planet Beta." Later, the entry for the Betans in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #15 similarly referred to Beta's "neighboring planet Megan" and stated that Beta was also the third planet from the sun in the Mirpet star system. If this data is correct, this would mean that both Beta and Mega must be sharing the same orbit around their star. However, none of this information about the locations of Mega and Beta has yet been presented in any story.
• Although a scene set on Mega was presented in Godzilla #14, it took place within a single room and the planet itself was never depicted.
• Although usually referred to as Mega, this planet has sometimes been called Megan. These are probably typos.
