History

A reality similar to Earth-96283.

The Daily Bugle press, including Peter Parker, were invited to the laboratory of Dr. Otto Octavius, where he demonstrated his new invention. However, the demonstration ended up being a disaster. It exploded and caused a panic around the city. Even though Peter and Otto had a nice conversation, the appearance of Spider-Man after the explosion made Otto think it was because of the costumed hero. After the explosion Spider-Man stopped some looters in the city and came across Mysterio and his thugs. Spidey stopped the villain and went back to Daily Bugle.

J. Jonah Jameson told Peter about someone who moved hazardous material through the sewer system. Peter went to see what was this all about. It was Lizard who tried to poison the city. He attacked Spider-Man and was defeated. After the fight Peter remembered about Mary Jane's play and hurried to the theater. Peter still was late and wasn't allowed to see the play, so he saw how Shocker blew up some part of the theater. Peter quickly fixed it with his web, changed clothes and ran in the Shocker's direction. It's unknown what really made Shocker to cause all this commotion, but he was defeated and wrapped in a web by Spidey.

While Spider-Man was busy fighting Shocker, Otto Octavius finally woke up in a hospital with his mechanical arms permanently attached to him. The medics couldn't remove them. Otto was angered by this fact. He called himself Doctor Octopus, decided to take revenge on Spider-Man and jumped out of the window. Then he made a secret laboratory in one of the Docks buildings and started to plan how to bring down Spider-Man once and for all.

The next day Peter woke up and saw a message from MJ that reminded him he had a meeting with MJ and Harry at the mayor's press conference about the reopening of an oil refinery. Peter was already almost late. He quickly suited up and web-swinged across the city. When he got to the opening, he couldn't find MJ and Harry. Unfortunately, Rhino and his thugs decided to plant bombs around the refinery to intimidate the mayor and demand money from him. While Spidey was busy defusing bombs and fighting henchmen, Harry and MJ could take care of themselves. When Spider-Man finally defeated Rhino and saved the mayor, he met Harry and MJ, but Harry yelled at him, because he thought Spidey was stalking him. He was still mad it him for the death of his father.

While they were arguing, Doc Ock entered the scene and kidnapped MJ, because he thought it would make Spider-Man follow him. Spider-Man had to fight through armies of Ock's henchmen and self-made robots to get to the villain. After the vicious battle, Spider-Man could talk some sense into Otto and he blew up his invention to save the city, seemingly sacrificing his life in the process. Spider-Man saved the day and got a kiss from Mary Jane.[1]

Trivia

  • The cutscenes of the game use models of characters from Treyarch's and PC version of the game mixed up with screenshots and promo materials from the first two Raimi Spider-Man movies. Those materials were edited very unprofessionally, which makes the cutscenes a very notable part of the game.
  • The developers used the Lizard model from E3 trailer of Treyarch's version for the cutscenes. However, the villain was cut from the main version of the game.
  • The game reused lots of levels, enemies and core mechanics from GBA Spider-Man. For example, the first 3 levels are exactly the same and Mysterio has all attacks of the Vulture. Also while Lizard acts just like Kraven and Shocker was transferred without any differences, Rhino and Doc Ock seem to be taken from GBA Spider-Man 2, so the N-Gage version is technically a mix-up and re-skin of those two games. In early trailers for the game, reused locations weren't re-skinned yet, so the battle against Mysterio even takes place in the same location as it was in GBA Spider-Man.
