A spectator is a character that watches the race and is either cheering or waving. The most common spectators are Yoshi's, Toads, and Shy Guys.
Yoshi[]
Yoshis are one of the most common spectators you see in races. They make sounds when cheering, but not when waving. Yoshi's are a species of various colors. The racer Yoshi is a notable member of the species.
Toad[]
Toads are another one of the most common spectators. Like Yoshi's, they make sounds when cheering, but not when waving. They are a species of mushroom headed humans. The racer Toad is also a member of this species.
Shy Guy[]
Shy Guys are also one of the most common spectators. Like Yoshi's and Toads, they make sounds when cheering, but not when waving. Like Toads and Yoshis, Shy Guys are also various colors. One of the most notable Shy Guys is the racer, which can be found here.
Pianta[]

Pianta's are fairly common spectators, especially in the older games. Pianta's don't make any noise while cheering or waving. The Pianta's, similar to Yoshi's and Shy Guys, are a species of various colours. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Pianta's are seen in Sunshine Airport, DS Cheep Cheep Beach, and Super Bell Subway.
