Play Nintendo is a website from Nintendo of America that aims to appeal to younger audiences by promoting their products and provide free online activities involving Mario and other Nintendo franchises alike, sometimes also third-party releases on Nintendo platforms. The website was launched on October 1, 2014.[1] The website is divided into five sections: "Friends," "Activities," "Media," "Printables," and "News & Tips." A dedicated YouTube channel of theirs was launched around the same time.
Because Mario is Nintendo's mascot, the website design features a Mario theme, such as how clicking the search bar reveals Yoshi, whose tongue elongates, revealing a search bar. Randomly placed Question Blocks can be found while randomly scrolling any of the sections, and clicking it causes a brief random effect to occur, known as "surprises," such as a graphic of a Bullet Bill traveling across the screen, an upscaled sprite of Super Mario from Super Mario Bros. walking across the screen while the beginning part of the Ground Theme plays, or Kirby launching into the computer screen before slowly sliding his way back down.
In general, several Play Nintendo activities and videos are focused on Nintendo all-stars or major Nintendo releases, so Mario often appeared alongside other Nintendo protagonists such as Link and Samus Aran.
