Matter Splatter is a gimmick in Super Mario Galaxy. The gimmick made its debut in the Ghostly Galaxy, where it is the focus of the secret star Matter Splatter Mansion, and it appears later with a greater role in the Matter Splatter Galaxy.

Description[]

The Matter Splatter Gimmick involves some terrain being comprised of invisible matter and bubbles of solidity engulfing sections of it, creating solid, visible sections that can be stood on normally. If Mario steps on an invisible section, he will fall through as though he were standing on nothing. The Matter Splatter Galaxy introduces bubbles that can shrink and grow, with an arc of light bouncing on them to make them grow; without this arc, the bubbles shrink back down until the light returns to augment their size.
