History
2007-2010
On July 15, 2007, Phil.e. founded the Mario Wiki. Months later, since there was a lack of active administrators, Phil.e. promoted TheMG and Count Caterpie to this position.
On September 23, 2008, Mario Wiki reached its 450th article, Mario Party DS.
In 2009, the Mario Wiki received a new custom Monaco skin. It reached its 500th article: Rainbow Ride. With edits building up fast, Mario Wiki reached its 650th article: Boo's Mansion. Launchballer requested to become an administrator, but users opposed it. However, the wiki did not need more administrators. TheMG requested to become a bureaucrat. As a result, users supported his request and CatherineMunro promoted him into a bureaucrat.
In 2010, Launchballer requested to become a rollback for Mario Wiki, thus the community supported it. TheMG promoted Launchballer into becoming an rollback.
2011-2020
In 2011 Mario Wiki had its new logo. Users continued to help the community reaching 2,500 articles. Overall, users were promoted and they resigned from their positions.
In 2012, Mario Wiki editors progressed their edits to its 3,000th article, Pink Apple. Conker's Bad Fur Day was promoted into an administrator, and Wattz2000 was made a bureaucrat. ZeoSpark joined the Mario Wiki on September 21; he noticed many fanon pages and was willing to help the wiki. After his huge help as an editor, he signed up to become an administrator of the Mario Wiki. However, users rejected his request, and did not "need another admin".
In 2013, the wiki staff became inactive with Wattz2000 as the last editor. Recent users were not helping the wiki by spamming images on pages. ZeoSpark was aware of it and requested the adoption to the Community Central. ZeoSpark created a blog post about adopting the wiki. Merrystar gave administrator and bureaucrat rights to ZeoSpark. As a result, the wiki started from scratch with previous staff resigning from their positions. Additionally, the Mario Wiki reached 4,000 articles and ZeoSpark revived the The Glitz Pit.
In 2014, Lumoshi, Dreb607 and JosephTheElite were elected to be the staff of Mario Wiki.
In 2015, Dimentio99 became an administrator while the wiki reached 5,000 articles.
In 2017, Derekblue1 and CoolKarim became administrators of Mario Wiki. Mario Wiki reached 6,000 articles. Mario Wiki connects to the Mario Multilanguage Wiki, a Discord server that is "home to the users of the wikis of different languages".
In 2018, the Mario Wiki reached over 7,000 articles.
In 2019, Derekblue1 updated the wiki with new portable infoboxes and then changed it in a few months. Additionally, the WAM (Wiki Activity Monitor) log was added to the wiki to keep track of the wiki's activity. Derekblue1 became a bureaucrat while CoolKarim resigned from his position and LuigMaster41 became an administrator. RB1196 became a content moderator, but retired on September. Awyman13 is a full-time wiki manager who joined the Mario Wiki to assist it. While the page creation progress took more than a year, the Mario Wiki reached 8,000 articles.
In 2020, the Mario Wiki has a new Good articles page, giving opportunities to articles with limited information to be recognised. On April 29, Derekblue1 and LuigiMaster41 worked together to create a template, Rescuestar. It would compliment users who worked hard to contribute to the Mario Wiki. On May 11, Derekblue1 recently added the social media page to "NintendoVS", a community with Mario Wiki, Splatoon Wiki and ARMS Wiki. On May 25, Derekblue1 stepped down on his bureaucrat position and became just an administrator of the wiki.
2021-present
In the middle of the year 2021, after following resolved issues with the staff members, LuigiMaster41 rejoined the staff team as a content moderator. Moviesign has succeeded the role of the wiki manager of the Mario Wiki.
In October 10, 2022, NewSuperMarioBrosFan has become an administrator of the wiki. That same year, on November 8, the Mario Wiki reached its 10,000th article, Flying Question Block/Gallery!
2023 was unarguably the greatest year for the Mario Wiki during its lifespan. Not only were several spam pages deleted, duplicate articles merged, and many articles expanded, but about 5,000 articles were created that year alone, meaning about a third of the Mario Wiki's content at the time was added during that year alone. On March 17, Gematarix created the 11,000th article, Magma Castle. He created various other milestone articles the same year: the 12,000th article on May 24, Soil Sonar; the 13,000th article on July 12, Farm Fresh (WarioWare: D.I.Y.); the 14,000th article on September 19, Lovely Seashell; and the 15,000th article on December 2, Mouse Cracker. The same year, on April 6th, the Mario Wiki gained popularity from a Fandom video promoting the The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the wiki itself.
A few staff promotions occurred in 2023. On February 14, 2023, Gematarix became a content moderator. On May 24, 2023, CreepyVivian and Hellohowareyouthisisanalt were promoted to thread moderators.
On May 27, 2023, new guidelines were implemented called Mario Wiki:The Upcoming Rule and Mario Wiki:Separate Article Rule. On May 29, 2023. the Mario Wiki:Crossover coverage guideline was implemented.
In 2024, most of the staff team has declined in activity, and Derekblue1 retired from being both an administrator and a user on January 28, 2024. However, few months later, on April 22, ZeoSpark promoted both Gematarix and Hellohowareyouthisisanalt to administrators, effectively revitalizing the staff team.
On April 25, 2024, the wiki has been renamed from MarioWiki to Mario Wiki, to add a space between the two words.
