Mario's Shoe is a recurring item in the Mario franchise. They are first seen in Donkey Kong, but have their first gameplay role in Paper Mario.

Description[]

Mario's Shoes are a pair of brown work shoes worn by Mario, and are one of the clothing items part of his main outfit. Luigi wears a similar pair of his own work shoes.

In Paper Mario series[]

Here, Mario's Shoes are known as his Boots, which can be upgraded to the Super Boots and then later the Ultra Boots, each granting Mario a stronger jump attack than the previous.

In Luigi's Mansion[]

"Wh-what is this? If it isn't Mario's Shoe! Why, the sole is so worn, as if he's walked a thousand miles!"
—Madame Clairvoya

Mario's Shoe is one of Mario's five missing items, the other four being Mario's Hat, Mario's Letter, Mario's Glove, and Mario's Star. Like with Mario's other missing items, Luigi has to bring Mario's Shoe to Madame Clairvoya to help her figure out Mario's whereabouts. Mario's Shoe is found in The Twins' Room, inside of a small treasure chest that spawns after defeating Henry and Orville. In the Nintendo 3DS version's Hidden Mansion, Mario's Shoe is instead located in the Billiards Room.

In Mario & Luigi series[]

In installments as early as Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, they are known as boots, and are among the clothing items to have several variations that can be equipped by Mario and Luigi, affecting their abilities accordingly.
