Mind Flayer (Adventures of Mana)

The Mind Flayer is a boss in Final Fantasy Adventure and in Adventures of Mana. It is the final form of the mage Davias, fought on the rooftop of the Old Mansion.

Strategy[]

This may be the toughest fight Sumo has yet faced, as the Mind Flayer has access to scorching fireball spells that can knock off 30-50 damage per hit. In the remake, it will use these spells in a set pattern as it moves about:

1. Start by using four fireballs as a shield, and throw the rest slowly.
2. Create a ring of fireballs, and throw more rapidly.
3. Gather a batch of fireballs, then disperse them in all directions.
4. Break for an opening.

Worse still, each fireball spell sticks around for a while. Lester's AI is slightly better than the previous companions, so it may be wise for the player to allow him to absorb some hits while moving Sumo around. The player should find any opening they can to strike with their best weapon, and heal as needed. With careful use of charged strikes, the Mind Flayer will fall in a few rounds.
