Etymology[]
Jormungandr, also known as Midgardsormr, is a great serpent of Germanic and Old Norse mythology, said to encircle the mortal realm in the sea surrounding it by devouring its own tail. The serpent possesses a potent venom capable of killing the gods themselves, hence being banished for all time. Should its tail be freed, the serpent will rise and the great war known as Ragnarök will begin, leading to the end of the present era and the birth of a new age as the worlds rebuild.
