Background

[edit]

The second paragraph in the Background section should really be on a page about the Du Plessis family. It doesn't say anything about Dricus, and centuries old family background is entirely irrelevant to this page. - Rooiratel (talk) 10:44, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As an amateur, Dricus is undefeated in official kickboxing matches. He has a kickboxing record of 33-0, with 30 of those wins coming by way of knockout. RikiLouw (talk) 10:32, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 13:33, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As part of his background. The part where it speaks about that he started with his kickboxing at 14, he eventually ended with an official kickboxing record of 33-0 with 30 Knockouts. RikiLouw (talk) 15:45, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

IPA needed

[edit]

Please can someone add a South African IPA. I've only heard it in English as /ˈdrkəs dʊˈplɛs/, but that can only be considered a non-native approximation in lieu of H:IPA-AF. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:15, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change the comma in "Du Plessis is bilingual, he speaks English and Afrikaans." (First line under Personal Life) to either a semicolon or a ", and", since the comma alone doesn't read right VictorMcDk (talk) 18:52, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of the surname du Plessis at the beginning of a sentence

[edit]

According to English Grammar rules:

1. Capitalize the first word in every sentence. You should always capitalize the first letter of the first word in a sentence, no matter what the word is. Take, for example, the following sentences: The weather was beautiful. It was sunny all day. Even though the and it aren’t proper nouns, they’re capitalized here because they’re the first words in their sentences. There is one rare possible exception to this rule: a brand name that begins with a lowercase letter like eBay or iPad. Even these normally lowercase words are usually capitalized at the start of sentences, but a style guide may make an exception for them.

Source, English Thesaurus.

du Plessis at the beginning of sentences in the article should change to Du Plessis.

Do any contributor have any remark to the contrary?

If there is no proper remarks given within the next few days, I will assume that above guideline out of the English Thesaurus is acceptable.

I will then proceed to edit the article.

Thats not necessarily true, look at the city of uMhlanga's page. Nswix (talk) 21:37, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the comment/s, I dont see any proper explanation of why the use of the surname Du Plessis shouldn't be changed.
Im intending to edit the use of the surname Du Plessis in the article, also in the middle of sentences, as it is a proper name.
After editing I wont consider it kind or professional of any contributor to roll back my edit, especially because I did start a conversation about it.
Regards. Odriskelmac11 (talk) 17:23, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So, I gave an example, then you ignored it, and stated that its set in stone, you decided how it should be, no one can ever roll it back...? Nswix (talk) 18:38, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
uMhlanga yes,
Look at the English Wikipedia pages of Barend du Plessis and FW de Klerk Odriskelmac11 (talk) 08:23, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The articles you listed capitalize the surnames at the beginning of sentences but not in the middle. I suggest this article should follow the same format with the capitalized "Du Plessis" being used when beginning a sentence and the lowercase "du Plessis" used when it is not.
