Dust jacket of Meet the Austins (The Vanguard Press, 1960) by Madeleine L'Engle, first edition. Image is slightly cleaned up due to a tear on the actual dust jacket. Artist unknown. Additional significance is that a chapter cut from this first edition was later published separately as The Anti-Muffins, and eventually included in the novel's 1997 hardback edition.

This edition is also notable for its omission of a controversial chapter which was later published separately, and later still appeared in a new hardcover edition, as discussed in the article. |
