Bandama Caldera
Appearance
The Bandama Natural Monument is part of the Tafira Protected Landscape. It's considered a point of geological interest, because of the Caldera de Bandama. This explosive caldera is at 569 metres (1866ft) above sea level, and is 200 metres(656 ft) deep and about 1000m (3280ft) wide. It's the result of a large explosion, not an ordinary volcanic eruption. The walk to the bottom of the caldera is nice and takes about half an hour (but it's steep, you may be tempted to go up slower). Volcanic ash of different hues is in great abundance, of course, and there are some interested botanic species of canary origin.
