Banchō and Pikachu - Yokohama DeNA BayStars Manager
2023年8月11日(祝・金)~13日(日)にパシフィコ横浜で、「ポケモンワールドチャンピオンシップス 2023」が日本で初開催されるぞ!
Release information
As part of the celebrations for Japan hosting their first Pokémon World Championships, the Pokémon Ball Park Yokohama (Japanese: ポケモンボールパーク ヨコハマ) event was held at Yokohama Stadium, Yokohama from June 30 until July 2, 2023. Home team Yokohama DeNA BayStars hosted three games against Nagoya's Chunichi Dragons while the event was in progress, which incorporated several Pokémon attractions and saw the addition of Pokémon themes to proceedings. Two photo opportunities were present, one of which was the Pikachu Helmet booth (Japanese: 「ピカチュウヘルメット」ブース), a mock-up of a home plate and batter's boxes complete with an image of BayStars catcher Yasutaka Tobashira. The other was the Banchō Frame booth (Japanese: 「番チュウフレーム」ブース), a Pokémon card mock-up depicting corporate art of Pikachu and former BayStars pitcher-turned-manager Daisuke Miura. The rest of the illustration window was hollow to allow people to have their photo taken. People were provided with Pikachu batting helmets to wear at both opportunities. Two other booths were also present: the VS Tobashira booth (Japanese: vs 戸柱選手ブース) and the Struck Out booth (Japanese: 「ストラックアウト」ブース). At the VS Tobashira booth, visitors could challenge one of Yasutaka Tobashira's four Pokémon in a one-on-one battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Battle Stadium. At the Struck Out booth, visitors were challenged to knock down as many of the nine Pikachu panels as possible by throwing three Poké Balls. Winners at the VS Tobashira booth received a Poké Ball toy, as did participants that knocked down a certain number of panels at the Struck Out booth.[1][2][3]
During the opening ceremony, BayStars cheerleaders wearing Pikachu ears and tails were accompanied by Pikachu mascots donned in BayStars shirts featuring the number 025 and the World Championships logo. Music was provided by Senzoku Game Music Brass. During games, BayStars players wore Pikachu-themed attire and were introduced alongside their favorite Pokémon on the stadium screen. Pokémon animations were also played on the stadium screen throughout.
Trivia
Origin
This card depicts Daisuke Miura, a former professional baseball player who spent most of his professional career at the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, going on to coach and manage the team. The card name includes 番長, banchō, which references Miura's nickname, "Hama no Banchō", the "Boss of [Yoko]hama".[4] His position as BayStars manager at the time of the event is also referenced in place of a Pokémon category, while the "81" in place of Pokédex and collection numbers similarly references his uniform number as manager. The Water typing may also be a reference to the BayStars team colors, which are blue and white. The attack Yo-Ro-Shi-Ku!! is a reference to syllables frequently said by Miura for media and public appearances.
The card also features a Pikachu—Quick Attack is a move in the Pokémon games that Pikachu can learn.
