Lûg was an Orc of Angband, slain by Tuor in Gondolin in the First Age.[1]
Biography[]
During the Fall of Gondolin, Lûg was among those Orcs which assailed the Gondothlim alongside the Balrogs at the coming of the Drakes. Lûg was ultimately slain by Tuor, who smote him with his axe, Dramborleg, which cut his limbs out from beneath him to his knees in the process. The slaying of Lûg was part of the famous onslaught which is said to have been the greatest killing of Orcs ever conducted by the Eldar.[2]
Etymology[]
Lûg[3] or Lug is a Gnomish name meaning "snake". The Qenya cognate was Lôke.[4]
