- I've overhauled the page with headings and cleaned up some duplicate or outdated (as of S4) theories. The article was becoming a mess and impossible to browse trough. Freekazoid 16:54, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Question[]
- Is this "Represents the capitalist model of survival on the island", really a theory?--lewisg 12:29, 12 December 2006 (PST)
- I'd say it's the best kind of theory. There's plenty of evidence to back it up (read the article Economics), but as yet there hasn't been concrete proof (direct statement from the writers or producers). While it's generally accepted as a fact (much like the theory of evolution, which is still just a theory), it's entirely possible that the writers will someday respond "What? A representation of capitalist economics? Where did you get that? We were just trying to write a bad boy!!". I sincerely suggest keeping it, in the hopes that it encourages people to put more thought into their theories. -BearDog 14:06, 12 December 2006 (PST)
Armed forces?[]
- I don't know if Sawyers use of Clicks and Sweep the PErimeter indicate army training. After all, as of the time the shows takes place, 2004, those terms are pretty ubiquitous in pop culture, and would be known to just about anyone who's seen a military based film.
Albuquerque, not Alabama[]
Sawyer said to Kate on the helicopter: "I have a daughter in Albuquerque, you have to go find her. Tell her I´m sorry."
Sawyer's feet[]
This section was moved from theory page on 5/28/09 due to there being to theory made. There is stated evidence that his feet are important, but no theory given as to why. Once the theory is made, please move back to theory page. NEVERGIVEUP Contribs Talk 15:34, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- There is something significant about Sawyer's feet. There have been two seemingly meaningless sequences that involved his feet: 1)Sawyer got a dart from the Hatch stuck in his foot on the way back from Hydra Island, and 2) Sawyer experiences pain as he walks barefoot through the jungle with Locke to the Black Rock. These two events had absolutely no bearing on the episode at the time, but they were included anyway.
- Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn rarely wore shoes.
- The feet young Sawyer sees from beneath the bed are the feet of old Sawyer who kills his mother for making his future not happen and then kills himself.
- The dart was there to show a development in his relationship and his feet hurt with Locke because he had been found by Locke during the night. I'm not sure what the significance is or could be.
- Sawyer is again shown walking barefoot across the island in "The Lie" and hurts his foot - this time with a twig becoming stuck in his foot. Again, this is clearly shown despite having little obvious significance to the storyline suggesting that there is something meaningful to this recurring scenario.
For the record, I believe that this is only shown to show his toughness, and no hidden meaning. NEVERGIVEUP Contribs Talk 15:34, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Moved from Theory page[]
These comments were moved from the theory page due to a lack of evidence. Please add evidence that leads to a conclusion, and then put it back on the theory page. If you have any questions, please see LP:TP.
- Sawyer is "Radzinsky" in the 90's. During the 1990's James could've taken Radzinsky's identity and lived in the Swan for a while and shoots himself from the intense grief of Juliet's death. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Riseman (talk • contribs) .
- Sawyer has a special connection with Aaron, this is shown by the use of Sawyers voice to stop his crying.
- In the alternate timeline Ford will go by his name. This is because if John's father is not a con man (John and Helen inviting him to their wedding), then he didn't con Ford's mom, and therfore his father didn't commit the murder-suicide that formed Ford into a con man, taking on the identity of the man who he believes is responsible for his parents' death, calling himself Sawyer. This James might go by the name of James. He will be different in nature, perhaps educated and successful, worthy of Juliet (who perhaps will mourn losing her sister, because Jacob couldn't cure her from cancer). He will not have a daughter with Cassidy, and didn't go to Australia to kill that man. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Noa1981 (talk • contribs) . (Removed as most of this was proven false in ("Recon"). Still possible that in the flashsideways, Locke's father is not the conman that scammed Sawyer's familiy, but this theory needs to be reworked after ("Recon").)
- Sawyer remains on the Island in 1977 and joins the Others. He grows older and, in 2004 when the Losties arrive, he is the character we know as Tom. This is why Tom wore a disguise in his initial encounters with the Losties-to keep from being recognized by his younger self. The similarities between the characters are many, including: the names (Tom is a clear reference to Tom Sawyer, the literary character);their age (in 2004, Tom is about 30 years older than Sawyer); their body type, longer hair, southern accent, and untucked shirts; their aversion to blood; Tom's connection to Juliet when she joins the Others in the early 2000s; Sawyer's demonstrated ability to assimilate and his dealangs with Richard Alpert in 1974; and the fact that Sawyer shoots Tom, which would be poetic irony and fulfillment of Duckett's dying statement that "it'll come back around." There have been hints that Tom is gay, but these hints were deliberately ambiguous and possibly intended to misdirect, just as Tom' disguise was intended to keep people from making the connection. (Disproven, but the editor put a lot of thought into it, so I moved here to give opportunity to rework if they see fit.)
- Sawyer shot himself in the head after he throws the engagement ring in the ocean and leaves Kate at the pier. He seems to have an injury on forehead/temple area when talking to Nemesis in the cabin. He can see the mysterious teenage boy and is now special because he is dead. (speculation: Other people have seen manifestations on the island & they weren't dead when they saw them. Needs more evidence as there is now a whole group of "Other's" that see Sawyer, & they aren't dead.)
