Goin' to Heaven on a Mule is a 1934 Merrie Melodies short directed by Isadore Freleng.

Plot[]

An extremely lazy man working on a plantation must choose between good and bad when it comes to alcohol. He has a nightmare where he goes to heaven on a mule but, while up there, he is kicked down to the underworld with Hades after drinking alcohol from the "forbidden tree", an allusion to the Biblical account of Adam and Eve.

Notes[]

  • This cartoon no longer appears on American television because of racial stereotyping of African-Americans, though it is not part of the Censored Eleven as it was never part of the Associated Artists Productions package that included those cartoons. Nickelodeon actually had the cartoon in its library back when it had the rights to air Looney Tunes cartoons as part of their Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon block, but it was never shown, due to Standards and Practices objecting to it.
