Tortoises are a species of animal native to the Pride Lands. They are preyed upon by leopards.

History[]

Kongwe's advice to Simba[]

When the spirit of Mufasa suggested that the strength to defeat Scar lay within the Pride Lands, Simba deduced that he must mean Kongwe, the oldest and wisest animal in the kingdom. Per Simba's orders, Fuli and Makini ventured to Urembo River in search of Kongwe, only to discover that she was a tortoise. Though she offered wisdom to the pair, only Makini was receptive. Impatient, Fuli tried to explain her fast-paced lifestyle to Kongwe, but she merely retreated into her shell to reflect on Fuli's words.

Together, the trio journeyed toward Pride Rock, during which they cut through the Back Lands. Hungry for tortoise meat, Makucha attacked the trio, but Fuli fought him off. Despite her victory, he managed to evade her by zig-zagging as he ran. In the face of Fuli's frustration, Kongwe advised her to observe Makucha, and she realized that he always zig-zagged. Using Kongwe's advice, she chased him in a straight line and finally managed to tackle him. After he ran off, Kongwe expressed shock that a cheetah had listened to a tortoise.

That evening, Fuli and Makini led Kongwe to Pride Rock, where she met with Simba. In answer to his concerns about Scar, she advised him to be patient and asserted that good always triumphed over evil in the end.^[1]

Physical characteristics[]

Tortoises are moderately sized, four-legged animals. They have soft bodies and hard shells, which are covered in black and brown spots. They can have brown eyes.^[1]
