Ashtaa's herd is a group of elephants led by Ashtaa.
When Ashtaa's daughter, Belee, got separated from her herd, she befriended Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa. Eventually, the herd located Belee and invited her new friends to accompany them on their journey to an elephants' graveyard. Along the way, Ashtaa's jealous son Harak schemed to get rid of Belee so that he could have all of his mother's love. Eventually, the herd reached the elephants' graveyard, where Harak sprang his attack on Belee, only to be thwarted by Simba. In an effort to protect her brother, Belee seemingly sacrificed her life. However, she emerged from Harak's trap unharmed, and he vowed to never be jealous of her again.

After getting separated from her herd, Belee met Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa, who agreed to help her look for her herd. All day, the four scoured the jungle for Belee's herd until the sun began to set and Timon called for a halt. Though Belee despaired over ever finding her herd, Pumbaa assured her that they would continue their search in the morning. Settling down, he questioned Belee on what life was like in a herd, and she explained that her mother, Ashtaa, led their herd and that it was always a female who led an elephant herd, while male elephants left upon growing into adults.
At that moment, Ashtaa approached and picked up Timon in her trunk. A delighted Belee reunited with her mother and introduced Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa as her friends. Thanking the trio for having saved her daughter, Ashtaa invited them to journey with her herd for a time, then led them to where the other elephants were waiting in the shade. While most of the herd rejoiced at Belee's safe return, her brother Harak seethed with jealousy at how she was hogging all of their mother's attention. He then mused about how he would receive all of Ashtaa's attention if Belee were ever lost for good.

Ashtaa and her family.
Along with Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa, Ashtaa's herd set out for a secret destination. Along the way, Ashtaa asked Simba why he was so far from home, and he replied that Timon and Pumbaa were his family now. He then asked where the herd was going, and she explained that they were traveling to an elephants' graveyard so that her aunt, Darann, might take her place there before her time ran out. Meanwhile, Harak schemed to have a tragic accident befall Belee.
The next morning, Ashtaa's herd reached the elephants' graveyard. There, Harak met an eagle named Claws, and the two schemed to get rid of Belee and Simba. In the meantime, Ashtaa stayed with Darann as she prepared for death, while Belee played with Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa. During their game, Simba overheard Harak plotting against his sister and tried to warn her, only for Claws and Harak to trap him in a bone cage.
With Simba out of the way, Claws distracted Ashtaa's herd, while Harak lured Belee to him with cries for help. As he started to push a pile of bones onto her, a recently freed Simba leaped onto his back and began to attack him. The fight caused the pile of bones to topple over, and Belee pushed Harak out of the way before he could be crushed. Horrified, Simba leaped after her, and the bones fell on top of them both. Overcome by remorse, Harak grieved his little sister. A moment later, Belee and Simba emerged unharmed.
After the incident, Ashtaa learned what had happened and thanked Simba for having saved Belee's life. She then told Harak that she loved him just as much as Belee but that she had to give her more attention because she was younger and needed guidance. He vowed to never be jealous again and to be kind to his sister from then on.
Together, the group returned to the elephants' graveyard to find that Darann had died peacefully. As the herd journeyed home, Ashtaa gave birth to a second son. Before Simba and his friends parted ways with the elephants, he thanked Ashtaa for her kindness and proclaimed that he hoped to be as wise as she was someday.[1]
