Children's books and cartoons have a long history of sometime being subtilty political. Stories like Yertle the Turtle (an allegory of Hitler) or the Butter Battle book (about nuclear proliferation) by Dr. Seuss were written as much for adults as they were for kids. Even early nursery rhymes were often about political issues. For example, Baa Baa Black Sheep is about over taxation.
The short film Munro, written by editorial cartoonist and children's book writer, Jules Feiffer, takes a shot at The Draft. In the short film, the military adults are oblivious and clueless. They follow their protocols mindlessly to keep the war machine going. The short film is done with…
A hilarious little short that says fuck the army.
No cops at pride just Munro.
Funny satire of a 4 year old being drafted which also serves to criticize conscription and the army through exaggeration.
Munro who is four, gets drafted in the army.
The result is a great satire and almost feels like an older version of American Psycho for most part.
While it does not have the greatest animation, it benefits from a great tonal consistency and a strong ending.
A must watch.
Munro doesn't have the most impressive visuals in the lineup of Oscar-winning shorts, but it does boast a scathing script satirizing the American war machine. It's easy to imagine how this could be construed as simply un-American at certain moments in the last century, but as it stands, it's wickedly smart and pretty damn funny to boot. It may not be one of the all-time great winners of the category's history, but it is very, very good.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Overthinking it but where were his parents at the beginning?
It does a good job of showing how everyone is going through the motions and not paying attention. It’s anti war but also how children are often treated and ignored.
A gem that I hadn’t watched or heard of before. Munro won Best Animated Short Film at the Academy Awards and very much deserved.
Bitch draft me I dare u
Just a simple yet precise allegory and its funny and cute to boot!
Army is shit. Doesn't matter if you're 4, 24 or 44.
He’s only four!
