The Re-Gou Ruby,[1][2] alternatively called Re-Gou,[3][4] ReGou,[5][6] Magic Ruby,[7] or Red Ruby,[8] is a ruby heavily featured in the Egypt subtheme of Adventurers.

Background[]

The Re-Gou is a gem that was said to have great magical powers, glowing brilliantly when charged in a sacred chamber. It is protected by the undead Pharaoh Hotep. The Adventurers team and the villains Baron von Barron and Slyboots are both trying to retrieve it, while Hotep is trying to keep it for himself.

The Re-Gou's fate depends on the story. In An Adventurous Holiday, Johnny Thunder successfully retrieves the Magic Ruby as a gift for the museum. In The Curse of the Mummy - An Interactive Puzzle Book, the adventurers originally intended to leave the Re-Gou in Hotep's tomb but are forced to evacuate when the pyramid collapses, ultimately bringing the Re-Gou to a museum. In The Red Ruby!, Johnny Thunder and Pippin Read decide the Red Ruby is safer left guarded by Pharaoh Hotep than it would be in any museum. In 5542644 Die Jagd nach dem Pharaonenschatz, both the ruby and Pharaoh Ramses' mummy are displayed together in the museum.

The Re-Gou Ruby is a major part of the backstory in the 2020 Creator 18+ set 10273 Haunted House. The backstory for this set apparently confirms that Samuel von Barron ended up with the ruby, but upon completion of a portrait depicting him with his prize, he wound up cursed by Pharaoh Hotep and driven mad. Von Barron also attempted to extract the power of the ruby using a Resonator, but only ended up summoning two friendly spirits that haunt his manor. Oddly, the Resonator in the set itself includes a blue jewel instead of the red Re-Gou.
