Background[]
Misfortune's Keep was the most infamous pirate ship to sail the seas of Ninjago, serving as the vessel of Nadakhan and his Sky Pirates until they were defeated by Captain Soto and the crew of the Destiny's Bounty. After being freed by Clouse, Nadakhan rescued his crew and celebrated with them aboard the Keep, which had ended up in a hidden cove. After witnessing the destruction of Djinnjago, Nadakhan became determined to take revenge on Ninjago and set his crew to work refitting Misfortune's Keep into an airship. This would then serve as their base of operations as they menaced Ninjago while attempting to create a brand new Djinnjago by lifting various landmasses into the sky.
In The Dark Island Trilogy, which takes place after Nadakhan's escape and its results were (mostly) negated by Jay's third wish, the Keep is once again converted into an airship after Clouse assumes control of the Sky Pirates. It then serves as Clouse's base as he attempts to corrupt the Temple of Light so that he can rule both Ninjago and the Dark Island.

- This is the third time that Kai, Jay and a variant of the green ninja have been released together in a set. The first being 70736 Attack of the Morro Dragon and the second being 70751 Temple of Airjitzu.
- This variation of Jay-or at least his double-sided head-is exclusive to this set; the body is identical to that found in 70594 The Lighthouse Siege and 70602 Jay's Elemental Dragon, but this version does not come with his hood.
- Kai also appears in 70591 Kryptarium Prison Breakout, 30422 Dragon, and 70600 Ninja Bike Chase; in the latter two he does not come with a scabbard piece. Lloyd also appears, minus his armor, in 70593 The Green NRG Dragon (with a face mask) and in 70601 Sky Shark (with a hood).
- Nadakhan is identical to the version released in 70594 The Lighthouse Siege, while Flintlocke is identical to the version released in 70601 Sky Shark and Monkey Wretch is identical to the version from 70602 Jay's Elemental Dragon. A similar Flintlocke with hair and shoulder armor instead of a helmet and epaulettes was also released in 70594.
- Bucko also appears in 30421 Pirate Plane, 70593 The Green NRG Dragon, 70599 Cole's Dragon, and with an issue of LEGO Ninjago Magazine.
- This set comes with the "Trapped Sensei Wu" Djinn-blade.
- This set number can be seen on Lloyd's prison shirt in episode S6:O3 - Enkrytped.
