Long ago, an order of monastic knights slew the vile gods of the old world, using esoteric powers granted by the moon and sun. Now the world has grown dark and violent, as those selfsame deities prepare their return—challenged only by the light of the eclipse.

The Star-Eater

  Feeding on the celestial bodies of distant constellations, the Star-Eater was lured across the universe by a cosmic ripple: the swallowing of a Sun. Aurelion Sol intends to absorb the power of this so-called Sun-Eater--even if it means destroying her world.
  "I have consumed stars a thousand times the size of this pitiful planet. Your resistance is... an amusing diversion."

The Sun-Eater

Sun-Eater Kayle

The hated sun-eater, Kayle wished to be one with the divine she loved, devouring the primordial sun and steeping the land in an eternal eclipse. Driven mad with light and unable to contain her power, she passed fragments down to an army of witch-knights, who slew the other gods in an act of unforgivable blasphemy.

Lunar Eclipse Aatrox

One of the few who took up the mantle of the Eclipse Knights in the days of old, Aatrox hopelessly pined for Kayle's affections… but she could only ever love the blazing sun. When she devoured it, the entity's lunar corona consumed him. He exists now as Kayle's monstrous, once-noble shadow, ever at her side.

Eclipse Knight Diana

  Against the wishes of her Order, Diana seeks out the site of Kayle's sacrifice. For the Order, what has been buried should remain as such. But Diana's need to discover the truth of the eclipse is a conviction that cannot be swayed--not even by her dearest friend.
  "In the name of eradicating evil, Kayle has committed an unspeakable transgression. We are the inheritors of her atrocity, the children of her eclipse, and only through rectification of the Sun-Eater's great sin may we find true righteousness."
Solar Eclipse Leona
Hearken! We beseech thee, O Cruel Sun, and deign to bless with the cleansing flame of thy celestial majesty. May this shield guard against the scourge of dark enchantments, which choke our land. May this blade be the hammer against the servants of witchery and evil. I, Leona, do take this oath forevermore.

  Resurrection of the Old Gods looms. The Order's most important fight lies ahead--and Leona knows that those who cling to the mysteries of the past invite only sin and sacrilege. She cannot tolerate doubt, even if it comes from the woman closest to her heart.

Lunar Eclipse Nilah

  After sealing an Old God into her weapon, Nilah betrayed the Coven to join the Eclipse Knights. She has looked evil in the eye, and bested it. Now all that's left to do is use one God to kill the rest--beginning with the Thousand-Pierced Bear.
  "Hah! Please, Janna. I have done what all of you should have long ago. Does it not get terribly boring, being such a thorough sycophant?"

Solar Eclipse Sejuani

A Knight of the Eclipse who patrols the border of the Elderwood on a great beast. Grim and wild at heart, Sejuani lives for battle with the forces of the Old Gods, caring naught for the reason why.

  Sejuani has spent a lifetime pressing back the horrors of the Elderwood as a fearsome and unrelenting Eclipse Knight. Few would volunteer for such a post--but Sejuani delights in battling the Old Gods.
  "Evil shall not set foot outside this cursed forest. The burning ring ordains my unceasing vigil."

Lunar Eclipse Senna

An ancient knight long thought dead, freed from the Eclipse Cathedral's catacombs as Kayle began to stir from her ancient slumber. Senna now aids her knighthood against the new threat of the Coven, saving whoever she can from the resurrected Old Gods… though she remains ever vigilant, as the sun-eater's return is now inevitable.

  Senna, one of the Order's most ancient knights, has slumbered for centuries. She remembers Kayle's act of atrocity--and upon awakening, knows the Sun-Eater's return must be stopped at all costs.

Solar Eclipse Sivir
Chromas: Catseye, Obsidian, Pearl, Rose Quartz, Ruby, Tanzanite
A mercenary Eclipse Knight known for her skill in battle and lack of chivalry, Sivir sells her services eliminating witches and monsters who menace the countryside, ignoring threats that do not prove lucrative. Though many knights find nobility in their stated purpose, Sivir cares naught but for coin, pledging to aid her order only in their final, dire hour.

Trivia[]

Eclipse draws inspiration from Game of Thrones, Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
As part of the Eclipse universe, it shares thematic similarities with Riftquest, Ye Olde and Winged Reign.
In the Eclipse universe, Omen of the Dark is a storybook fable that parents tell their children.^[1] However, the boundaries between reality and fiction are blurry and it's possible the story is an interpretation of Coven Lissandra's schemings and Kayle's betrayal that morphed into folklore.
- A copy of the tome is viciously protected by Spectral Fiddlesticks, as something happens when the book is read.^[2]
Solar and Lunar Eclipse Leona were originally concepted as a fan skin by Sunny 'Kindlejack' Koda before he joined Riot.^[3]
Solar and Lunar Eclipse Leona dance synergies with Solar Eclipse Sivir. Sivir's dance has a mark for then - Leona has to activate her dance.^[4]
Before founding the chivalric Order of the Eclipse, Sun-Eater Kayle was a member of the Coven, worshiper of the Primordial Sun and Morgana's sister. Out of her desire to be one with the deity, she consumed the Primordial Sun in an act of betrayal. However, Kayle was unable to control its power and had to pass down fragments of it to the monastic knights who slew the remaining Gods.

Sun-Eater Kayle wants to destroy the world in flames as a last act of devotion.
- Kayle is awakening while Aatrox protects her, but Senna will do her best to stop the Sun-Eater from awakening.
- 10Aurelion Sol is currently seeking after Kayle, to devour her power.
Diana is extensively mentioned in the Eclipse lore, hinted to be Leona's love interest by Coven Morgana and Coven Evelynn.
Leona fights for the Eclipse order without question and prepares for war against the coven's witches and their revived old gods while 2Diana tries to discover the secrets of the Eclipse order.
2Nilah was once a witch of the Coven, but she betrayed then, trapping her Old God within her weapon, and joined the Eclipse knights.
- In their card arts, 2Nilah is trying to prevent 4Janna from completing her ritual to awaken the The Thousand-Pierced Bear.
Aurelion Sol, Diana and Nilah has a Eclipse skin currently exclusive to Legends of Runeterra.
